Ian has taken our Southern team across four offices from strength to strength. Highly skilled in developing people and business, he gives people the space to lead and take ownership.

Ian’s success is grounded on his proven ability to understand our client’s business drivers, with his head for project feasibility and business case development. With over 30 years industry experience, he has a good understanding of the nuances for business in regional centres across the South Island and the different approaches required to deliver value for clients in each region.

Christchurch Operations Manager

Ian is a strong advocate for building a great business through the development of people, and that doesn’t happen in isolation; it takes leadership and the right processes and operational tools to make success happen.

Ian brings a wealth of senior leadership experience developed over 29 years in the industry managing major projects, programmes of work and regional business units. His large scale project experience includes leading a 200-strong team on the $3.5b AMI / Southern Response earthquake programme. 

Ian’s personal integrity generates a strong culture of ownership, initiative and project success, ensuring our teams are meeting and exceeding our Southern clients’ expectations.

Ian was part of the team behind the St Bede’s College Chapel and Performing Arts project which won the Supreme Commercial Project of the Year 2020.

Dave wrote the blueprint for The Building Intelligence Group 30 years ago. He was the driver of professional consultancy services and champion of our desire to act independently for our clients.

‘Be Impressive’ - a core company value - is still his mantra. As a Director and strategist, no one sees it as sharply as Dave. He takes a 360 degree view, adding significant front-end value to projects, based on years of delivering hundreds of projects with an emphasis on Government accommodation.

David is one of the strong anchors for our Christchurch team with respected team leadership and experience.

What differentiates David’s approach is the wide perspective he brings to his projects, developed from working ‘on all sides of the fence’ including as a chartered building surveyor, lead designer, main contractor and client-side project management professional in his career. Few in our industry could tick these boxes, giving him a strong understanding of projects from every angle. David was runner up in the 2018 NZIOB Consultant Awards and he helped achieve industry award success for the Rangiora High School Rakahuri project and the Arvida Park Lane Living Well Apartments.

Project Director

Stephen offers over 19 years’ experience in the construction industry, gained in project and construction management within the South Island and the UK.

His sector specialties include large format retail developments, commercial office, controlled environment buildings, heritage restoration and seismic projects. In post-earthquake Christchurch, Stephen developed a strong knowledge of local conditions, working on new build and seismic strengthening projects. His background as a chartered building surveyor complements his Engineer to the Contract experience. Stephen is solution focused and leads from the front, with projects under his control quickly earning the respect and trust of clients.

Project Director

David has successfully led a number of high profile portfolios of work for councils, government, airports, corrections, commercial and retail clients, giving him a very strong awareness of challenges and opportunities in these sectors.

David’s career spans over 15 years’ experience in the UK, East Africa and NZ. He held a senior role at Beca for four years and brings extensive technical planning and programming knowledge to our team – by applying lean principles, David drives every step of the project to deliver best quality for the lowest cost and in the shortest timeframe.

Andrew’s roles have seen him lead project teams on new build construction, redevelopment and earthquake repairs with a particular emphasis on project close out, compliance management and quality control. 

Andrew has a reputation for providing thorough service and value added, high quality outcomes and a particular strength is his attention to detail. He excels in a high-pressure environment and will do what’s required to ensure successful project close out. His sector experience includes tertiary, justice, education, commercial and science technology projects. As an experienced construction and project manager, Andrew has an excellent understanding of all stages of the project lifecycle.

Senior Project Manager

Sean was driving part of the team behind the St Bede’s College Chapel and Performing Arts project which won the Supreme Commercial Project of the Year 2020.

As an experienced Civil Engineer and Project Manager in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, Sean offers 12 years’ experience in horizontal infrastructure and vertical construction projects.

Sean’s strength is in driving projects through feasibility, design and build phases, across apartment, commercial, business parks, hospitality, infrastructure and retail projects. Sean has acted in many different capacities managing multi-disciplinary teams from concept to construction and has developed a strong skill set as project manager, senior project engineer, and design and build developer. His horizontal infrastructure experience is an asset to our team. Sean thrives in project environments requiring strong technical thinking.

Project Manager

As a Project Manager in our Christchurch team, Kim has proved highly tenacious and confident in handing multiple school projects and has contributed to The Building Intelligence Group’s strong reputation in the education sector. 

Kim has completed a Bachelor of Building Science (BBSC) at Victoria University of Wellington, with a major in project management and sustainable systems engineering.  She has built strong experience over five years with our Christchurch team and is a go to strong resource on a wide variety of projects. Kim is a great communicator and builds an excellent rapport with clients and stakeholders.

Sonia’s career straddles both project management and design management, gained through her strong foundations in architectural practices and project management consultancies. Sonia’s wide ranging project experience over 12 years reflects her sector diversity in education, tourism, retail, airport terminal and the arts.

Sonia’s holistic approach commences by working very closely with clients and stakeholders to ensure innovation is captured in the design and translated into strong construction execution which exceeds the Clients expectations. She takes ownership across the whole project lifecycle and takes a collaborative approach to building and motivating teams to deliver high quality outcomes.

Simon is a resourceful Project Manager who provides certainty for his clients through consistent and open engagement, quality processes and hands on management.

Simon has a very good understanding of the requirements of education, corrections, commercial and health sector projects to drive strong commercial outcomes for our clients. Simon also has a depth of UK experience, working on prisons, health, commercial and heritage projects.

He promotes strong team unity, ensuring the entire project team is invested in the project.

Project Manager

Daniel comes into our Christchurch team with extensive Ministry of Education school project experience behind him. He also brings the wider diversity of project experience on hotels, KiwiRail infrastructure and Southern Response Earthquake Recovery projects.

A lateral problem solver and self-starter, Daniel brings strong project control and accuracy to his projects and forms strong project team connections. Applying sustainable design to the built environment is a strong passion for Daniel, a reflection of his tertiary study where he completed a Bachelor in Architecture at Victoria University and a post grad qualification in Building Science.

Assistant Project Manager

Muazam is a highly motivated postgraduate student with a desire to build a career in project management within our Christchurch team. Muazam holds a Master of Engineering Studies, endorsed in Construction Management.

Internships in the wider property industry and recent relevant work experience in construction management have given Muazam good exposure to construction, quantity surveying and project management tasks and processes.  He is gaining valuable experience on school redevelopment and new build projects and on an infrastructure civil works project.

Assistant Project Manager

Lauren was drawn to a career in project management after completing a Bachelor of Building Science degree, majoring in Project Management.

Lauren has a good grounding in administrative support functions and processes and brings this strong organisational ability to her role as an Assistant Project Manager within our Christchurch team. Lauren is handling day to day processes on a wide range of projects in the education sector. She also has an affinity with health related projects, having provided project administrative support for healthcare organisations in Australia.

Assistant Project Manager

Mitchell has built a solid footing in project management following his Bachelor of Building Science degree. He has developed a strong skill set as his project experiences have grown in diversity across residential rebuild, building surveying, asset maintenance and construction projects. Mitchell is a Certified Project Management Professional. 

Mitchell gained significant experience on the Southern Response repair and rebuild programme, which gained him a strong understanding of remedial works from assessment to design and construction performance.

Assistant Project Manager

Milly is an experienced architectural graduate, giving her a solid foundation as a creative, yet technically minded problem solver.

She brings strong design planning and management skills to her role as an Assistant Project Manager and has a history of working on healthcare, residential, social housing, commercial and industrial projects.

Milly flourishes in collaborative environments and works positively with clients and stakeholders.

Christchurch Office Manager

Laura’s role is a pivotal one, supporting multiple key senior people in our business on a daily basis and anticipating their needs so that their schedules and planning horizons are maximised.

Her view of our business is both a local and national one, as Christchurch Office Manager, and Executive Assistant to our Business Manager Southern, Managing Director, Corporate Services Manager and Head of Marketing. Staying on top of this micro and macro view is something that Laura excels at and reflects her love of organisation, calendar management, events, office openings, HR, and people. She sets newcomers up for success through her warm and professional management of induction processes. Professionally and personally, Laura sets high standards for herself, and also gives back to the industry through her involvement and membership with the Association of Administrative Professionals.

Branch Administrator

Katy makes a significant contribution to our team through the confident and efficient way that she handles the many project and corporate based operational tasks and processes that support our business.

Katy has strong project administration skills including managing quality assurance documents and reports, health and safety management and documentation, processing accounts, report preparation and asset maintenance and compliance. Her ability to work independently and be a major contributor to our team environment is extremely valuable.

Business Support

Stephanie has joined our Christchurch team to undertake this key role while Lisa-Michelle has moved into a 12 month secondment as IT / HR Coordinator for our National team.

Stephanie is experienced as an administrator within both the legal and property/construction sectors with a focus on accounts admin, as well as H&S and a range of other transferable skills.

She’s recently completed a Diploma in Business and is keen to roll up her sleeves and put her knowledge to good use.
