The Rutherford Clinic
The Rutherford Clinic is a new specialist centre for endoscopy and digestive health, developed by Southern Cross Healthcare and 25 specialists. Expanding on its existing service in Lower Hutt, the new facility introduces a self-referral pathway and improves access to gastroenterology care across the Wellington region.
TBIG was engaged to manage the transformation of an 840m² Art Deco building into a contemporary clinical facility. We led the project through full fitout delivery, coordinating consultants, contractors, and dual clients across a technically demanding site with tight spatial constraints.
The result balances the character of the original structure with modern clinical functionality. It includes three bespoke, Italian manufactured Cubro modular procedure rooms - supported by consultation spaces, recovery areas, a scope reprocessing suite, and a calming discharge lounge. Staff only areas were finished to the same standard as clinical spaces, aligning with the project’s “spa/hotel” brief and enhancing staff wellbeing.
With no ability to increase the building’s height, we worked with the design and services teams to make efficient use of every available space, repurposing existing rooms for plant and essential services without reducing useable space.
Delivered under NZS3910, the project demanded careful planning, clear sequencing, and strong collaboration. Our involvement ensured a cohesive process and a high-quality clinic that strengthens digestive health services for the region.
