Te Whare Toroa / Ōhakea Base
The Te Whare Toroa project involves the construction of the infrastructure and facilities for the P8 Poseidon Aircraft at RNZAF Ōhakea. The construction consists of two hangar bays to house the P8 aircraft, maintenance and support facilities, training and simulation facilities including the Poseidon operation and the interface works with the apron and HEF system.
As a substantial infrastructure project, the impartiality and independence brought by TBIG in the Engineer to Contract and Engineer’s Rep roles has been crucial to ensuring that the project remains on programme, and any contract clarifications and resolutions have been resolved fairly and collaboratively.
TBIG’s ETC Lead Charles Brown has taken the lead on this significant two and a half year project as Engineer to Contract in accordance with NZS3910:2013.
The horizontal infrastructure works package covered the construction of a 32,000m2 apron, new car parking facilities, runway construction and upgrades to existing, taxiway and ordinance bay construction including infrastructure. Works included aircraft wash bay facilities, pump house, the vertical building site and pad preparation, bird bath for the assets, all stormwater systems and all associated roads, markings, lighting, and landscaping. Charles also took the lead as Engineer to Contract, leading a team of two Engineer’s Representatives.
