Our team gets results:
te waka aorangi child wellness centre
Te Waka Aorangi is a dedicated centre for children with neurodevelopmental, behavioural, and mental health needs in the Bay of Plenty. It brings specialists together in a shared space, ensuring tamariki and their whānau receive streamlined, integrated care without multiple referrals.
TBIG, seconded to Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, oversaw the $5.5M project from early fitout stages to completion, managing programme and construction, stakeholder engagement, and relocation. The fitout transformed a two-level, 1200m² building into a child-focused hub, housing teams from Child Health Integrated Pathways (CHIRP), Paediatrics, Child Development Services, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, and Audiology. External works included landscaping, a playground, entry ramps, cultural artwork, and an integrated storage container.
Relocating five staff teams required extensive coordination, with TBIG handling facility vacating, cleaning, furnishing, and move logistics. The project embraced a strong cultural narrative, incorporating Iwi involvement and storytelling through materials and finishes.
Completed on time and within budget, the centre plays a vital role in supporting children and their whānau with responsive, integrated care.
